The beginning (1884)
Just like many other fairy tales it all starts as a coincidence. In the end of the 19th century chocolate becomes more and more popular in Europe. And in Denmark the greengrocer Anthon Berg decides to try his luck with cocoa beans. He brings along his passion from the vegetables and soon the chocolate store in central Copenhagen becomes quite the attraction.
Generous from the start (1886)
Anthon Berg’s chocolates are so popular that customers form long queues outside his store. To sweeten the wait Anthon Berg and his employees start to hand out small pieces of chocolate with marzipan to the loyal chocolate lovers. Anthon Berg is founded on generosity from the very early days.
A classic is born (1898)
You cannot say Anthon Berg without saying marzipan bars. 1898 sees the introduction of a large-scale production. At the same time the fine, pink wrapping is introduced. Today, our marzipan bars are one of the most iconic confectionery products in the world – and they still appear frequently in Danish cinema ads.
