We fight to make sustainable palm oil the norm

At Toms Group we use 100% responsibly produced "RSPO" certified palm oil. RSPO stands for Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil. It is a not-for-profit association created in 2004 together with WWF to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil products through credible global standards.

Palm oil represents a very small part of some of our products. So is the case for many manufacturing companies for the retail industry. Therefore the global use of palm oil is enormous - and so are the negative social and environmental consequences if palm oil is produced unsustainably.

Why sustainable palm oil?

The reason why we fight for sustainable palm oil is, that grown in the wrong place and in the wrong way, the cultivation of palm oil can be devastating for people, wildlife, nature and our climate.

As oil palm trees produces far more oil per hectare than any other crop it is not a responsible or sustainable solution to shift to other oil sources.

We therefore fight for a global transition to sustainable palm oil by following the leading international standard and guidance of RSPO. By doing this we follow the recommendations from WWF and support the international goal in the Amsterdam Declaration of 100 pct. sustainable palm oil supply chain by 2020.

What about the other parts of Toms' corporate responsibility?

On this page we have described how we work to live up to our responsibilities at one point along our value chain. Read here about our overall approach to our corporate responsibility and how we work for responsibility in other areas of our business as well.
